“We do not confuse our capabilities and ambitions, rather we plan accordingly to ensure the correct processes, strategies and systems are implemented to allow us to successfully attain our goals.”

Mark Stewart, Managing Director founded Classic Contractors with extremely limited resources and nothing more than a credit card in his pocket. Like many apprentices, Mark dreamed of establishing his own business rather than working for a wage. Eighteen years on, he is an example of how a ‘tradie’ can build a successful business. Mark’s commitment and determination have been acknowledged by the business community as a recipient of the WA Business News 40under40.

Classic continues to develop a strong business model throughout an economic climate that continues to be a lot of hard work. Over the past several years, we have seen wavering levels of uncertainty across all market segments and many companies simply have not survived. Since the reduction of government stimulus, the private sector continues to be faced with extremely tight bank lending criteria, the likes of which can sometimes put projects on hold.

Some of the trends we have seen in the employment market are beginning to change. With a softening resource sector, we anticipate that skilled labour shortages will soon begin to improve, the unsustainable pricing policies we have seen recently will begin to correct themselves and this could see Classic focusing on taking a more aggressive strategy in hiring the best people to meet the needs of acquiring some very exciting portfolio jobs in 2014-15. Classic will continue to monitor and review all aspects of our operations, values and behaviors and continue to communicate our intentions with honesty and respect within our community. Classic Contractors is establishing a strong market brand in Western Australia and our company takes great pride in achieving the highest quality of workmanship. Classic Contractors has established a charter of values that aims to provide each team member with clear communication and expectations. The management team monitors our performance against these values, which allows us to promote our major point of difference, our professionalism to our client database. We endorse a strong occupational health and safety policy in combination with a dedicated commitment to being a quality driven business. We regard employment of staff based on character with enhancement of existing skills through training as integral to our ongoing success.
